Sunday's a Disney Day!

Cousins came down to go to Disneyland. I'm not sure whether to classify this as a rest day. I suffered all day on my legs. I tried stretching in line and rolled out in the evening. I hope everything will be at least 90% in the morning.

Om Nom Nom Nom:
Disneyland is so not Paleo. Not.
I brought my own fruit and trail mix to hold me through the bulk of the day
chicken and green beans
Rubios Fiesta Salad with just guac and chicken. It was gross.

Fail! Again!

20100827, originally uploaded by alsocutenfluffy.

It's like I fail because I want to keep pushing it. I don't even know if all of these fails are helpful to my progress. I mean it felt good but DAMMIT!
Had to ride my bike to work. My legs cramped up around Irvine. I am not happy. I sure as hell hope tomorrow brings lots of situps and double unders. Like Annie. That would make me happy.

Sleep 6hr 30min

What the HELL!?

20100825, originally uploaded by alsocutenfluffy.

I don't know what is wrong with me. This morning was absolutely HORRID! I mean, just down right embarrassing! I had no energy or strength or something to press, like none at all. I failed in all senses of the term. I either couldn't complete a full set at weight or had to drop the weight all together. I felt like I could have back squatted more but I think I scared myself into not going for it. I don't know what the problem was. I only was able to do 10 burpees from yesterday. I'll finish them when I get home tonight. Ugh.

Sleep 7hr 15min

Sunday's a GATHERING day!

This week I'm going with the minimalist approach of eating. That is a nice way of saying I'm a lazy ass.

This week's menu:
Steak salad with a variation of homemade dressings

yeeep. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. I'm eating salads all week.

Om Nom Nom Nom:
I grazed all day at the farmers market and ate some tuna when i got home. Minamalist. That and I wasn't hungry, at all.

Sleep 5hrs
I was up into the wee hours of the night doing post processing on some pictures and hula hooping.

Day of Rest?

YAY! I think I made a good decision to go into the gym this AM to do some skill work. I worked on Double Unders, Toes to Bar and Ring holds. I need some feedback on my toes to bar but my dubs felt really REALLY good!

Sleep: 5hr 30min

Om Nom Nom Nom:

So I'm glad I broke out of the 60's but not so glad that I failed on most of the reps. Grrr. Deadlifts felt great, I should have gone heavier.

I was glad to see more AM peeps. See, I mention it and then more people show up! Yay!

Om Nom Nom Nom:
Post WOD Banana
1 nectarine
1/2 handful of trail mix
Salad Day!

Everyone at work eats this glorious smelling type of food.

Strawberries/Blueberries

It's so funny. Some days I feel like a freakshow at work. Everyone else is eating pizza, burgers or some other fast food and I'm sitting here eating out of Tupperware. People laugh at me and say things like "you must have a lot of time to cook". I don't think they realize I commute to work from LA and don't have much time on the weekdays to cook. I see it like this. I'd much rather cook all day Sunday than just sit down and waste my life away on the couch watching TV, granted some days that is fun. And I only spend about $70 on food for a week. I think that's pretty good.

This morning I thought I could cheat the WOD by doing it backwards. In my fuzzy morning head it sounded like a great idea grouping the big leg muscle workouts together. It was only during the second set of box jumps as I read the board did I realize that I was not succeeding. There was no cheating this system.

Om Nom Nom Nom:
Post WOD Banana and HB egg
1/2 cup heavy pulp OJ (It helps me take my nasty tasting vitamins)
1 nectarine
handful of trail mix
little spoonful of raw eucalptus honey
sweet potato fries with thyme
sauteed kale and spinach
salmon and dill
3 clementine oranges
Iced tea
water

Sleep 6hr 46min (nothing unususal)

Went for a 30 min run, in the heat during lunch. Avg 11:30 min/mile almost 3 miles of motherfucking hills! Who knew San Diego was made up of all hills, Qualcomm glass buldings and military bases! I didn't. I hate hills, I hate them even more in the heat. Thank Jeebus there is a shower at work.

OK. I'm not gonna say today completely sucked but 100 burpees the night before did something ridiculous to my elbow. Again, I have taken the ice pack at work. People at work think I'm an angry rider now and injure myself on my bike. It's hard to explain to someone A) what a burpee is B)why I did so many and C) why I do it . . . crossfit that is. Tonight will probably be a drug night.

I'm a pretty obsessive person. The entire commute to work all I could think about was what substitute I could use to make paleo beignets; no solution as of yet. The idea sounds so amazingly good though! I will make this happen.

Om Nom Nom Nom:
Post WOD banana
Heaping spoonful of raw eucalyptus honey (as prescribed by the nice honey man at the farmers market who could tell I was struggling to speak)
3 clementine
handful of trail mix
small sweet potato
chicken lemon basil over cauliflower rice
Bella Olhao Sardines and seaweed

I have to be honest. I know sardines are a great resource for Omega 3's but, I really don't remember sardines being so big. I think this combo was a bit much. I'll figure out some other way of getting these into my body.
strawberries and blueberries
Lots of water and iced tea

Sleep 6hr 46min

Got about 35 minutes worth of pool drills in. My flip turns suck. Whelp, back on that horse I go!

Sunday's a Cooking Day!

First and foremost 9hr 17min of sleep!!!! Woohoo. I thought I would need a nap but survived my day without one.

Had a lot of burpee penalties to catch up on. 100. Which I broke down into 10 sets of 10. Not like it made it any easier. I had half a thought t do it for time . . . and then I came to my senses. The last 2 sets were really tough. I would say it took me *sigh* 50ish minutes to get through. I was being lazy. OK, but on to the main show!

This weeks menu:
Baked sweet potato fries with thyme and olive oil: Pretty simple coated Trader Joes pre sliced sweet potatoes with EVOO and fresh thyme in a ziploc bag. Bake at 350 for about 30 min

Grilled salmon with dill
Macadamia nut crusted swordfish
Bacon Glory cups
Sauteed kale and spinach with garlic: cut up garlic cloves. Heat canola oil in a wok add garlic, cook until fragrant (not brown) add about 1/3 cup water throw in kale and cover. When Kale starts to look wilty add a lot of spinach. Spinach cooks down, a lot.

made my own trail mix with walnuts, pepitas (pumpkin seeds), almonds, cranberries and dried strawberries, Next week I will add shredded virgin coconut

I tried to make fried cinnamon banana balls without sugar and flour. I was doing really well substituting sugar with raw honey, milk with coconut mils and the flour with a mix of coconut and almond flour. Problem I found is the structural integrity of the dough in hot oil. I think the gluten in regular pastry flour helps keep it together in the oil. Oh well, I tried. Smells amazing though.

I alos FINALLY after 3 weeks of pestering and endless e-mails was able to convince the woman who makes the sweet tea they have at Menocino Farms to sell some to me. She normally sells her teas at the Larchmont farmers market (which is generally overpriced and they don't have and good herb vendors). If you haven't tried the tea, go pay the $2 and get a glass at Mendicino farms. By far the best iced tea, no sugar needed.

Memo to me-Never go to the farmer's market when you don't have a voice. It's really really REALLY hard to bargain. =(

PS Sorry for the yellow-ish pics. It's from my iPhone, and no, there isn't an app for that.

NLP!!!

What an inspiring day. Over 1000 pictures later I will be swamped with sorting and color correcting for a few days. I should have slept earlier but getting up early in the AM (330) wasn't that bad. I only started to fade away around 1800.

Om Nom Nom Nom

Um. I really only grazed the whole day. I know that I drank less that a liter of water but ate a lot of watermelon.
Gluten free pizza with sausage, bell peppers, mushrooms and cheese.

Slept 5hr 40min. Quality of sleep sucked. I think my neighbor was having some wild kinky love makin on the hardwood kitchen floor. It sounded like they were on a crooked chair . . doin the nasty.

I realize that sleep is also an important factor in the Paleo diet so I thought I would add in the quality and amount of sleep from the previous night. I can tell you this AM was ROUGH! I took 3 Tylenol PMs to help me get some rest and while I did sleep through most of the night I was in such a fog until 930. Yes, I was driving dazed too, I won't be doing that again. Oh, and I hate hill sprints. But not once did I walk Up the hill; millisecond pause at the top yes, but no walking.

Sleep: 6hr 40min

Om Nom Nom Nom:

Post WOD Banana
Arrived at work completely starved! Ate a 1/4 cup of trail mix
steak, lima beans and mushrooms
1 nectarine
Banana

I also don't think lima beans are Paleo. So there goes 50 burpees in the AM. *sigh*

Found this old picture of me on a camping trip where everything I needed was packed on my bike. Betcha didn't know that street bikes could go off-road, yeah, me neither. Apparently we had stopped to get the essentials. Pink popcorn and marshmallows. I remember eating that whole bag by myself too.

Sunday's a Cooking Day

I had really intended to go on a 10 mile run. Like really good intentions, but it just didn't happen. Instead I slept in, hunt and gathered at the farmers market and cooked . . . a lot. Here is the menu for the week.

Chicken, avocado and bacon wrapped in lettuce
Steak with mushrooms in a red wine garlic reduction with lima beans
Lemon, basil chicken over cauliflower rice
bacon, spinach, egg, broccoli frittatas
Sauteed spinach and kale with lemon
and lots of fruits and berries.

Dude. That was like, 4 hours worth of cooking and baking. For the first time I cooked using coconut oil. Not very different technically but the flavor is very VERY strong. I will make sure to use with caution in the future. Oh, and cauliflower rice. The bomb. On to laundry!

Om Nom Nom Nom:
Well, today was more of a grazing day. I ate every fruit sample at the farmers market. Drank a ton of water and iced tea. My only real meal was mushroom and lima beans. I was really too tired to eat over all. Feel good though.

I hate this. I think my shoulders have plateaued at 68lbs for press! Noooooo! AND, I had to use my loser ass back up rope. I hate that rope. This is what it did to me while I was learning to do double unders.
Double Unders
You should have seen what it did to my legs. Through my pants. I looked like a case of domestic violence.

Om Nom Nom Nom:
Very VERY ripe banana post workout
handful of walnuts, almonds and pepitas
dried seaweed
Ice Tea
Salad with dark greens, avocado, mushrooms, beets, olives, broccoli, carrots a very small bit of crab meat drizzled with EVOO and a touch of balsamic vinegar and pepper
2 tangerines
3 hard boiled eggs

Rest Day

I was starting to feel stiff yesterday so I decided to drive to work. It took me 30 minutes longer in my car but I'm sure my shoulders will love me later.

Om Nom Nom Nom:

Nectarines (One White One Yellow)
1/2 glass heavy pulp OJ
Steak Med Rare
Watermelon Juice/Water
Seaweed
Trail mix
2 tangerines
handful of celery
cucumber slices (prolly 1/2 a cucumbers worth)
Ice Tea

I honestly do so hate playing the weak and feeble girl that most of society thinks should define women. I'd like to say that changes are being mad but that is because in my little bubble of a world women dead lift 200+, have abs that can break a mans fist (and heart) and wear sleeveless tops because their arms are too sexy big to fit into dress shirts. SO, here I am, in a work environment surrounded by men (again) who can't understand what I do or why I do it. And what i am talking about in particular is my choice to eat Paleo. Everyday this week some has approached me either on my break or lunch and said "steak huh?" "Mmmm Bacon" "That's a lot of lettuce". The people I am in a room with see me eat everything else. I refuse their snack offers of chips and cookies and I respectfully decline request to go to Subway or some fast food place. I explain Paleo to them as a way of rewiring my body to work more efficiently, weight loss and muscle gain are just some of the side effects. I just get blank stares or "You're crazy!". Dude, you don't even know what crazy IS. =D

Om Nom Nom Nom:

Had a banana after workout. Got to work and for whatever reason drank coffee!! Didn't feel so great so I only drank half a cup. For lunch see yesterday, leftovers. My afternoon snack was 3 tangerines and handful of walnuts, almonds, dried cherries and strawberries. For lunch I thought I'd try my vegatarians friend's recipie of sweet potatoes.

Sweet Potatoes cut into 1" rounds. Drizzle with EVOO fresh chopped thyme and garlic. Bake at 350 for @15 minutes. Yum. I'm doin that again soon!

CINDY!!

Lonely in the AM. Sometimes it gets a little lonely, but I like to think of it as better preperation for self discipline and motivation. Good for the soul.

Om Nom Nom Nom:

After my workout I scarfed a banana before my drive and a nectarine when I got to work.

My lunch. It's actually a 2 parter. As in I ate this 2 days in a row.
Grilled Chicken (seasoned with thyme and basil)
Applewood smoked Bacon
Avocado
Red Bell Peppers
all wrapped in butterleaf lettuce.

Grass Fed Sex on a Plate!

Safe to say, I am ADDICTED to grass fed meats. I had never really cared about the quality of my meat until about 3 months ago. I happened upon a great sale at Bristol Farms. $7.99 per lb for bone in rib eye, perfect for grilling! I fell in love. Adhering to paleo guidelines, I used only pepper and quite literally a pinch of sea salt. That was all this slab of awesome needed. I <3 Steak.

New Documentation

Hunt. Gather. WOD! This is my public blog in which I will document my Workouts and Paleo Diet. I can't commit to the lifestyle just yet; I really need my hair products and soaps. =)
